One of the most intriguing aspects of Kimchi’s work is its very diversity.
While working entirely in fine hardwoods Kimchi by no means confines himself to any one particular genre. He derives inspiration from the many facets of the natural world, be it the grandeur of an aged tree deeply rooted to the earth, or the delicate complexity of a minute butterfly.
The human form as well provides Kimchi with a wellspring of inspiration. Often the distinction between people and flowing organic forms vanishes as the two merge harmoniously. Perhaps Kimchi is alluding here to the ideal of oneness with nature.
Kimchi works in a number of fashions. Sometimes he will meticulously plan every detail of a piece prior to making it. At other times he will “go with the flow” of the wood and commence a creation with only a vague conception in mind.
He responds to each piece according to its own inherent logic and spirit.
Whatever the style of the work Kimchi prides himself on delivering only the finest of craftsmanship, focusing on honest joinery, subtle detailing and a sensual finish. His goal is to create pieces of functional art that will accompany their users throughout the generations, like faithful friends.
Kimchi creates both custom-tailored pieces through close collaboration with his clients, and pieces for outright sale. Please feel free to make
